Alaska's primary election law requires voters to make choices.

There will be 3 primary ballots to choose from:

* - the Alaskan Independence, Democrat and Libertarian Candidate with Ballot Measures ballot - ANY registered voter may vote this ballot;

* - the Republican Candidate with Ballot Measures ballot - ONLY voters registered as Republican, Nonpartisan or Undeclared may vote this ballot;

* - the Ballot Measures Only ballot - ANY registered voter may vote this ballot.

The political party affiliation listed on your voter's registration record 30 days prior to the election determines
which primary ballot type you are eligible to vote.
If you are a registered nonpartisan or undeclared voter you can choose
any ballot, and you then may vote for candidates on that ballot.

You must be registered with a party for at least 30 days prior
to the primary to be eligible for the ballot of your choice - or registered
as non-partisan or undeclared to have a choice of ballots on election day.

The primary election is on August 24, 2010,
so you must register by July 25, 2010, to vote in the primary.
You have the choice of registering for a party - OR non-partisan, OR undeclared-
to vote in the Alaska State Primary this year.

There are 2 ballot measures that will appear on the August 24, 2010 primary ballot this year:

Ballot Measure #1 - 07ANCO - Initiative Prohibiting Public Funds for Elections Campaigns; Also Prohibiting Campaign Contributions by Holders of Government Contracts. Follow this link for the Alaska Anti-Corruption Act.

Ballot Measure #2 - 09PIMA - Abortion for Minor Requires Notice to or Consent from Parent or Guardian or Through Judicial Bypass (pending lawsuit). Follow this link for the Parental Involvement Initiative

You can get directions and applications to register
or change your registration online,
though you must print out the application and mail it in -
so don't wait until the last minute to do this.

Don't think that your vote doesn't count - there have been several state elections lately
that have been decided by a handful of votes. One election was tied and was decided
by the toss of a coin. Please register and familiarize yourself with the candidates and
propositions and exercise your privilege to vote for people and issues of your choice.
